MDMA Safety Guide — Buying MDMA Online in Canada

Most MDMA-related harm comes from three things: unknown purity, redosing, and unsafe combinations. Buying from a trusted Canadian supplier with tested product removes the first factor entirely. This guide handles the other two.
What is MDMA?
MDMA (3,4-methylenedioxy-methamphetamine) is a serotonin-releasing empathogen. Effects: emotional openness, physical warmth, mild visual enhancement, deep sense of connection with music and other people. Onset 30–60 minutes, peak 2–3 hours, total 4–6 hours.
Dose ranges
- Light: 50–75 mg
- Common: 75–125 mg (most first doses live here)
- Strong: 125–175 mg
- Booster (optional, 90 min after initial): 40–60 mg maximum
The ‘magic dose’ most experienced users settle at is roughly 1.5 mg per kg of body weight for the initial dose. Never redose more than once, and never redose after the 90-minute mark — you lose the empathogenic feel and gain the stimulant come-up.
Test your batch
Marquis reagent is the standard first test. MDMA turns purple → black within 30 seconds. If it turns yellow, orange or stays clear, you don’t have MDMA. Combinations to avoid — no exceptions
- SSRIs and MAOIs: serotonin syndrome risk is real and potentially fatal. Wait at least 2 weeks after stopping an SSRI before considering MDMA (and consult a doctor).
- Tramadol, lithium: same reason.
- Amphetamines, cocaine: cardiovascular strain compounds.
- Alcohol above one or two drinks: dehydration and next-day misery.
The hydration myth
MDMA-related deaths are more often from over-hydration (hyponatremia) than dehydration. The rule: sip 250–500 ml of water per hour if you’re dancing; less if you’re sitting still. Add electrolytes (a sports drink or a pinch of salt) if you’re sweating heavily. Do not chug a litre in one sitting.
Body care during and after
- Take breaks from dancing — sit down every 45 minutes.
- Eat something small before dosing (a banana, some rice — not a heavy meal).
- Supplement afterwards: magnesium glycinate during the session and 5-HTP starting the next day (never within 6 hours of MDMA) helps replenish serotonin and reduces the mid-week ‘blues’.
- Space sessions at least 6 weeks apart. Serotonin receptors need time to recover; more frequent use is where the neurotoxicity concerns become real.
Set and setting
MDMA rewards intentional settings — a close group of friends, curated music, a comfortable space. First-time users are often better off starting in a home environment with 2–3 trusted people rather than at a festival. Festivals compound heat, dehydration, unknown other substances and social pressure to redose.
